ARA--------------------------Weeds in a wheat crop hinder its growth and the grain-filling process, ultimately negatively impacting yield. To help wheat farmers get rid of weeds, a new herbicide product called ‘Context’ has been launched.
Farmers preparing for the Rabi season are already concerned about weeds. Weeds in wheat crops slow down growth and the grain-filling process, which in turn affects overall production. To address this, the agrochemical company Parijat Industries has launched ‘Context’—a post-emergent herbicide designed to eliminate broad-leaf weeds in wheat. The company claims that ‘Context’ is highly effective, yielding promising results, and eliminates the need for repeated applications.
In a press release, Parijat Industries stated that ‘Context’ is formulated by combining two active ingredients—fluroxypyr and metribuzin—ensuring precise and effective results. Farmers do not need to mix different formulations themselves, nor is there any requirement for multiple rounds of spraying. The company asserts that ‘Context’ was developed to tackle emerging challenges in weed management and to assist in controlling weeds within wheat cultivation.
The company noted that ‘Context’ will prove highly effective for farmers sowing wheat during the Rabi season—particularly in major wheat-producing states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This product offers a practical and innovative crop protection solution tailored to the specific needs of the fields. With this herbicide product, the company aims to strengthen its presence in the wheat herbicide segment and provide farmers with specialized solutions for weed management.
Uday Raj Anand, CEO of Domestic Business at Parijat Industries, stated that innovation is most effective when it addresses the real-world challenges faced by farmers. With our product 'Context,' we have introduced a specialized solution to tackle difficult broad-leaved weeds and meet the evolving needs of weed management, which will further bolster our wheat herbicide portfolio. We focus on innovation, effective market implementation, and farmer-centric engagement to enhance crop protection and productivity.
Surendra Agrawal, Head of Strategic Marketing, noted that weed management in wheat is constantly evolving, and our solutions must evolve alongside it. While the use of pre-emergence herbicides has helped control *Phalaris minor* in many wheat-growing regions, challenging broad-leaved weeds—such as *Chenopodium album*, *Rumex* species, *Coronopus* species, and *Solanum nigrum*—pose significant difficulties in many fields. These weeds compete with wheat for essential resources, including moisture, nutrients, and sunlight, which negatively impacts crop growth and grain yield.
The product 'Context' combines a synthetic auxin herbicide (HRAC Group 4)—fluroxypyr—with a photosystem II inhibitor (HRAC Group 5)—metribuzin. This combination integrates two distinct herbicidal modes of action to manage broad-leaved weeds in wheat crops. Studies were conducted at select locations in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh—involving specific crop growth stages and precise dosages of herbicides—to evaluate the performance of weed control.
With this pre-mixed product, farmers do not need to manually combine two separate active ingredients. This simplifies product preparation and management, while also eliminating the need for repeated spraying. Applying the product at the right time—following the instructions on the label and adhering to local recommendations—ensures optimal results.
