BUXAR------------------------A 60-year-old Lalita Devi had gone missing mysteriously on the morning of October 23 from her residence within the 'Lalten Factory' premises, located near the eastern railway crossing in Dumraon. Her family searched extensively but found no leads. Subsequently, on October 25, her son, Pramod Kumar Singh, filed a missing person's report at the Dumraon police station. While the police were still actively searching for her, a resident of Purana Bhojpur—who had gone to the riverbank—spotted a badly mutilated body in the Bhojpur River and alerted the Naya Bhojpur police. Initially, the body could not be identified; given its condition and the clothing, the police were initially unable to even determine whether it was that of a man or a woman.

The police circulated photographs of the body to neighboring police stations and across various social media platforms, appealing for help with identification. Following the discovery, Dumraon SDPO Bhaskar Ranjan, Naya Bhojpur Station House Officer (SHO) Chandan Kumar, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team arrived at the scene. After hours of unsuccessful attempts to identify the body, the police conducted an inquest and sent it to Buxar for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the woman’s son, Munna Kumar, learned that a body had been discovered in the river near Purana Bhojpur village.

He immediately rushed to the Naya Bhojpur police station. Upon being shown a photograph of the body by the police, he broke down in tears. It was confirmed that the body was that of his mother, Lalita Devi, who had gone missing a week earlier. He identified her by her feet and body.

Following the identification, the entire family was left devastated, overcome with grief. However, the family members have not leveled any allegations against anyone in this matter. Dumraon SDPO Bhaskar Ranjan stated that upon receiving information about the discovery of the body in Purana Bhojpur, the police arrived at the scene and began efforts to identify the deceased. Her photograph was circulated across various social media platforms and shared with neighboring police stations, which eventually led to her identification. He added that the woman was mentally unstable, and her son had previously filed a missing person’s report at the Dumraon police station.
