DELHI----------------------------Delhi has been shamed once again. A case has emerged in which a 7th-grade student was gang-raped by a man—whom she had befriended on Instagram—and his brother-in-law. The accused had recorded an explicit video of the girl and threatened to throw acid on her.
In Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, a man—met via Instagram—and his brother-in-law have been accused of gang-raping a 15-year-old girl. The accused coerced the teenager by threatening to make a video of her go viral and to disfigure her face with acid.
On Saturday, the police registered an FIR under sections related to rape, gang-rape, and the POCSO Act, and have launched a search for the accused. According to the police, the victim is a 7th-grade student who had befriended a resident of Jahangirpuri on Instagram. It is alleged that on August 15, the man, identified as Razzak, took her to the flat of his brother-in-law, Karim, located in C-Block.
There, they raped her while threatening to throw acid on her, and recorded a video. They also threatened to make the video go viral. Out of fear, the girl did not tell anyone. It is alleged that on October 8, Razzak summoned the teenager back to the same flat, again threatening to circulate the video.
Upon her arrival at the flat, both Razzak and his brother-in-law, Karim, gang-raped her. During the assault, they recorded another video of her before sending her home with further threats.
As she left, the accused warned her that if she told anyone, they would disfigure her face with acid. On Saturday, the teenager confided in her mother, who then contacted the police via a PCR call. SI Muskan’s team has registered a case and initiated an investigation, having secured footage from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the accused's residence.
Meanwhile, in the Ranhola area of Delhi, a case has emerged involving an attempt to extort Rs 50 lakh from an elderly man—who manages properties on behalf of his son-in-law—by falsely accusing him of rape. On Saturday, the police uncovered the plot and arrested three individuals, including the mastermind. DCP Vikram Singh stated that on September 30, a young woman reported a rape incident at a flat in the Baprola area. She alleged that 74-year-old Ramesh Chandra had blackmailed her into coming to the flat, where he then raped her. The victim further claimed that she was forcibly made to consume alcohol.
Under the supervision of Inspector Ajay, a team led by SI Rajat began an investigation by recording statements. During the process, the woman’s account shifted, and it was discovered that several individuals had visited the flat prior to the police being notified—individuals with whom the woman had been in constant contact. Upon further questioning, the woman confessed the truth. She revealed that she had met a man named Ram Singh through the 'Work India' app. Ram Singh had promised her a job in exchange for her establishing a connection with Ramesh Chandra and subsequently accusing him of rape. The police registered a case and, on October 1, apprehended Ram Singh and Shiv Pratap. Acting on information provided by them, the mastermind—56-year-old Yogendra—was arrested in Rohini on Saturday.
The investigation revealed a conspiracy to extort Rs 50 lakh from Ramesh Chandra, a retired Haryana government employee, by framing him amidst a property dispute in Rohini. According to the police, Yogendra harbored a grudge against Ramesh Chandra and allegedly conspired with Ram Singh. Ram Singh and Shivkumar recruited the woman and sent her to Ramesh Chandra under the pretext of arranging a rental flat. On September 30, the woman lured him to the flat and subsequently demanded Rs 50 lakh to settle the matter.
