PATNA-------------------------Anant Singh, an expelled JDU MLA and an accused in the high-profile murder case of Dularchand Yadav in Bihar, has suffered a setback from the Supreme Court. The court has directed him to surrender by December 1. This order came during the hearing of a petition challenging the bail granted to Anant Singh by the Patna High Court.
Anant Singh had previously been granted bail by the Patna High Court. A petition was subsequently filed in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of this bail. While hearing this petition, the Supreme Court issued the directive for Anant Singh to surrender. This decision has once again stirred up the political landscape in the state.
The incident dates back to the Bihar Assembly election campaign. On October 30, 2025, amidst the heat of the elections, Dularchand Yadav was murdered. The name of Anant Singh, the then-MLA from Mokama, emerged in connection with this sensational killing. Although he had initially secured relief from the High Court following his arrest by the police, the Supreme Court's latest stance—coinciding with the first anniversary of the incident—has brought the case back into the spotlight.
Anant Singh’s troubles are not limited to the legal front; his political career is also in jeopardy. Following his confrontational stance against JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar, the party has expelled both Anant Singh and his wife, Neelam Devi, for a period of six years. Furthermore, JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha has approached the Legislative Assembly, demanding the termination of Anant Singh’s membership.
Following the expulsion, Neelam Devi has also faced repercussions; her ministerial-rank status has been revoked, and she has been served a notice to vacate her government residence immediately. Anant Singh is currently residing in a government-allotted house on Mall Road in Patna. While the threat of losing his assembly membership looms, an order to surrender by December 1 has further complicated his situation.
