ARA---------------------------A case involving the suspicious death of an elderly man has come to light in the Sahar police station area of Bhojpur district. The body of 75-year-old Gorakh Dom—a resident of Ekwari village—was recovered on Wednesday from a well located in a wooded area near a rice mill in Baruhi village. The discovery caused a stir in the area, drawing a large crowd of villagers to the scene.
According to reports, Gorakh Dom left his home on the afternoon of October 23 and never returned. His family searched extensively but could find no trace of him. Following an ongoing search, news arrived on Wednesday that his body had been discovered in a well, prompting family members to rush to the site.
The deceased’s son, Chandan Dom, alleged that on October 23, a fellow villager named Manjit Dom (alias Dhum) and his wife took his father away, claiming there was a 'panchayat' (village council meeting) to attend. Upon arrival, the elderly man was accused of practicing sorcery or occult rituals. The family alleges that he was subsequently murdered—his throat slit with a sharp-edged weapon—and his body was then thrown into the well to conceal his identity.
According to the family, the front part of the victim's throat was slashed, and one of his eyes was also found in a damaged condition. These circumstances have further strengthened the suspicion of murder. The family of the deceased is demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and strict action against them.
It is reported that the deceased’s son, Chandan Dom, had submitted an application at the Sahar police station on Tuesday, expressing his apprehension that his father had been abducted and murdered. In the application, he alleged that Manjit Dom and his wife had taken his father away from their home and subsequently murdered him, under the false pretext of performing an exorcism or ritual healing.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Piro SDPO Kanhaiya Kumar and the local police arrived at the scene. The police took custody of the body and sent it to Ara Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Additionally, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to the site to collect scientific evidence.
Piro SDPO Kanhaiya Kumar stated that the police reached the location immediately after receiving reports that an elderly man’s body had been found in a well near Baruhi village. The scene was inspected, and the FSL team collected the necessary evidence. A thorough investigation into all aspects of the case is underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
Gorakh Dom is survived by three sons—Lal Babu Dom, Dasai Dom, and Chandan Dom—and one daughter, Shila Devi. The entire family is in a state of deep mourning. The relatives are inconsolable, and a sense of both grief and outrage prevails throughout the village.
