SASARAM-------------------------Armed robbers carried out a major heist in broad daylight at Kanchan Jewellers, located at Mahatma Gandhi Chowk in Kochas. According to reports, four individuals on motorcycles, brandishing weapons, looted jewellery worth crores of rupees. Upon receiving information about the incident, Rohtas SP Mr. Raj arrived at the jewelry store. The police have begun an investigation and have currently sealed the 'Kanchan Jewellery' premises. It is worth noting that on the night of August 25, 2024, unidentified criminals cut through the shutters of the same store and stole jewelry worth approximately ₹5.20 crore. Although the police had previously taken two suspects from Uttar Pradesh into custody and sent them to jail, the main perpetrator remains at large. This second robbery at the store has raised serious questions regarding the administrative and security arrangements. The owner, Avinash Kumar, stated that he was attending to a customer when four armed, masked individuals arrived on motorcycles and, at gunpoint, fled with cash and jewelry valued at ₹3 crore. The local police station was immediately notified. This brazen daylight robbery has caused a stir in the area, and the incident—occurring near a busy marketplace—has heightened concerns among local business owners. Following the robbery, Rohtas SP Mr. Raj visited the scene to assess the situation. He assured that the criminals would be identified and apprehended within a week. Following the incident, Sadar SDPO-II Sanjeev Kumar and Kochas Station House Officer (SHO) Pramod Kumar arrived at the scene to question the shopkeeper and gather details. The police are currently examining footage from CCTV cameras installed outside and around the shop to identify the perpetrators and ensure their swift arrest. This incident of robbery has led the public to raise questions regarding the effectiveness of the police system. A major concern is when the police will finally take decisive action against criminals—especially given that this follows previous instances of large-scale thefts (involving valuables worth crores) and now, an armed, broad-daylight robbery. At present, the police are investigating the case based on CCTV footage and other leads. There has been no official confirmation yet regarding the exact value of the stolen jewelry or the identities of the perpetrators; officials are currently refraining from providing any further details.
